History[]
In 2400, after the USS Defiant was destroyed by a Klingon battlecruiser, Captain Kira Nerys took command of the USS Meru. Kira named the Constitution-class starship Meru after her mother Kira Meru. The Meru fought in the Third Federation-Klingon War starting in 2400. It fought in the final battle of the war the Battle of Bajor in 2403. The Meru joined the United Bajoran Federation of Planets and the Bajoran Starfleet in 2403. In 2403, the Meru came under attack by Klingon warships until rescued by the USS Hoshi Sato.
