The USS Kelvin (NCC-0514) was a Federation starship, an Kelvin-class scout in Starfleet service in the 23rd century, under the command of Captain Richard Robau in the early 2230s. The ship was 1,500-feet in length and carried a crew of at least 800.

In 2230, the Kelvin's crew made first contact with the Roylans, visiting their world. Keenser left the planet with the crew whom he had befriended.

At some point before 2233, George Samuel Kirk, Sr. succeeded Richard Robau as first officer, who in turn became captain. Kirk arranged for his wife Winona Kirk to be assigned to the Kelvin. Captain Robau was furious when it turned out she was pregnant. George Kirk would later tell his son that Heihachiro Nogura was ruthless in his position as yeoman.

James T. Kirk was born aboard the Kelvin.

In the late 24th century, the Kelvin was succeeded in its name by a Nebula-class starship, the USS Kelvin.
