Gaila was an Orion female Starfleet officer in the mid 23rd century. In the year 2257 she was roommates with Nyota Uhura. In 2262 she and Uhura were assigned to the Constitution-class starship the USS Enterprise. In the year 2290, she held the rank of captain and was in command of the Federation starship USS Endeavour, an Excelsior-class starship, which participated in the Battle of Calder II against a Klingon fleet during the final battle of the Second Federation-Klingon War.
