The Cheyenne class was a type of starship in service with Starfleet during the late 24th century.
These vessels were among the few Federation starships that had more than two nacelles – others include the Prometheus-class and Constellation-class starships.
The Cheyenne-class was a 24th century design of light cruiser, consisting of a saucer section derived from the Galaxy-class project with four warp nacelles attached by branching pylons to the aft saucer.
In the 25th century, the Cheyenne-class would continue in Starfleet service as a modernized heavy cruiser, generally commanded by an officer with the rank of commander. By this time the Cheyenne, like it's parent design, had been the basis for several other starships most notably the Dakota-class and the Stargazer-class.
